Swarmcast Gets Foot In the Door with Microsoft

January 22, 2008

Swarmcast, the company behind the Autobahn application for faster video load times on your favorite media-sharing sites, has announced its acceptance into the Microsoft Startup Accelerator Program. From the looks of it, Swarmcast has been selected primarily because of its use of Microsoft’s Silverlight technology, which Swarmcast uses for an integrated approach to delivering web video content for its clients and services.

microsoft-startup-zone-logo.pngThat should make both parties happy: Microsoft gets extensive research through Swarmcast, and Swarmcast gets additional support and resources from Microsoft. Given Microsoft’s efforts to get Silverlight into more places, lending support to those services that “distribute” Silverlight, in a sense, will help Microsoft towards that end. The goal with Swarmcast now being member to Microsoft’s Accelerator program is to expand its customer base and growth efforts as well.

Already, Swarmcast has lent its video delivery tools to several video-sharing networks out there, including Veoh, highlighting the importance of its service on the consumer end of online media consumption. The Accelerator Program is pretty important for Microsoft, as a conduit for working closely with startups across the world. The program has recently been extended to the UK, late last year.
